I just had a conversation about this subject last week with one of my managers. In the Merck Manual they refer you to Bright's Disease. I also read that it can have something to do with the bile, so increasing bile flow might help. I might use Cascara Sagrada. I also read that motherwort can help repair kidneys if protein is leaking into the urine good luck. -Virginia

Unusually speaking I started spilling protein when I was young. I have been to many urologists and I have had many tests performed excluding a kidney biopsy, which by the way they did want to do. My urologist told me my kidneys were perfect and there was nothing wrong with me but it could keep me from getting a job some day. Nay would I have ever known the trouble it would give me in my child bearing years. I was given over to many a specialist and was considered high risk because of the protein spillage. I have been spilling for years. I have collected urine for years for these doctors and none of them can explain why I still am spilling it. The most important thing is that I don't spill any protein during the night when I am sleeping and this is very important. I had to collect my urine for 2 hour intervals and took it in to have it checked but if there is a serious problem with the kidneys then the person will spill protein all of the time, awake and when asleep. I have baffled doctors for years and have never had a single symptom or pain or discomfort from this. I believed at one point that it had something to do with salt intake because I cut back tremendously when I was pregnant and my protein spillage was almost normal at one point. The doctors could not explain it. Now my father is spilling protein and the doctors say that it has to do with sugar intake. He is borderline diabetic and they are saying it has to do with his sugar consumption. I still cannot answer your question about the protein but they made me increase my protein intake when I was pregnant and I found that this made it worse. They were concerned that the baby would not get enough protein to develop properly and I had many ultrasounds throughout both of my pregnancies and they kept close watch on the development of the babies kidneys inside of me during the pregnancies. Since the birth of my last child I became a certified master herbalist and all of the material I have encountered says to decrease the protein intake and I believe it is too much protein. I have found that the protein that comes from animals causes more stress on the kidneys and I feel better when I eat protein from soy products, tofu, soy milk daily rather than from meat or eggs. I would highly recommend a vegetarian diet to see if it makes a difference on the next visit to the doctor. Good luck and let me know if this works or any other responses that may work. -Sue B |
