Dog - Puppies Not Digesting Food
We purchased a German Shepherd puppy about 4 weeks ago. She is now 14 weeks old. She is unable to keep food in her stomach for longer than a day or two. We have tried everything. Special puppy food for digestive problems, and then rice and a little hamburger. A breeder just recommended rice and ground turkey. So I have tried that for two days. She seems ok and eats well. Little meals 4-5 a day. And then all of a sudden, she starts crying and you can tell, she does not feel well and she throws up. When she was on puppy chow, the pieces came back up like they were just sitting in her stomach. Lots of flem/foam also is thrown up. If she drinks lots of water, it seems to stay in her stomach and you can hear it when she runs. She has a regular normal bowel movement. Any suggestions on something that may help her digest her food and not throw up. The vet is now recommending X-rays which we will probably be doing at the end of the week when he gets back from Florida.-Joan Consler

I would definitely let the vet do xrays to see if there are any obstructions or any other physical problems. In the meantime, I would try Proactazyme Plus. I have given this to my dogs with no problems and, since I give it to children when necessary, I would have no problem giving it to a four legged "child". -Mike

Enzymes, enzymes, enzymes as my ND would say. I give our schnauzer pro-zyme powder with every meal. If you feed dry food squirt a little water on food then sprinkle enzymes, wait about 10 minutes to let them work then feed. If wet food probably 5 minutes would be enough. -Beverly Roth |
