Water - Why and How Much to Drink

It is not realistic to believe that the rule of drinking 8 glasses a day is adequate enough to meet everyone's needs. The following Natural Health formula makes more sense. Begin with your current body weight and divide that amount in half. Add 16 ounces. The sum will be the minimum number of ounces that your body requires daily to sustain good health. If you weigh 130 pounds, drinking (65 plus 16) 81 ounces of pure water everyday will sustain good health overall.

If you are a poor water drinker you are creating the potential for great harm to yourself if you wait for the signal of "thirst" to remind you to drink water. Thirst is actually a danger signal that the body sends out. When this signal manifests itself, the body has already siphoned off its main supply of water from the blood.

Water is actually the most abundant chemical substance in the human body and accounts for approximately 60% of your body weight. Blood is 90% water. The liver is 71.5% water. The brain is 80.5%, lymph 94%, muscular tissues 75% and gastric juices 99.5% water. Water also activates digestive enzymes, enabling them to do their job. Water is very critical for most enzyme activity in the body.

Remember that additives to water actually convert that source to a liquid food. Foods, wether liquid or solid, require processing by the body to assimilate and digest them. This requires volumes of free water to properly complete the action. Additives to any amount of your daily minium ounces of water defeats your purpose in achieving an essential water supply.

No matter what your health concerns, start drinking the required amount of water everyday and experience the difference.

Water does not make you go to the bathroom more. In the beginning as your body starts to detoxify this may happen temporally. Your body will adjust. If you are not drinking enough water or don't realize how much is enough water, hopefully the following will give a little psychological nudge along with answering the question, "How much do you love your body?"

Below is a listing of the water content of some of the components of our bodies.

Additionally, it is not realistic to believe that the rule of drinking 8 glasses of water a day is adequate enough to meet everyone's needs. As supported by the above formulas your body's organs/systems sizes and weights will vary from other individuals depending on your body's weight and size as well as the gender difference depending on your being male or female.

So the formula I encourage that you follow is to begin with your current body weight and divide that amount in half. The sum will be the minimum number of ounces that your body requires daily to sustain good health. This is more than realistic when consideration is given to the fact that water is actually the most abundant chemical substance in the human body and accounts for approximately 60 percent of your body's weight.

Depending on how poor your water consumption history has been, your body will bloat for a period of as long as two to three weeks after starting to practice the above equation. This is because your body is designed to be a balanced piece of machinery. When it is taken to a sudden position of need from a previous position of starvation it automatically exhibits a state of mistrust in its owner. Its reaction is to harbor or attempt to store this gift for future use in the anticipation that it will eventually be dropped back to an undesired position of starvation.

You may gain as much as 8 pounds in water weight during this initiation. This is only temporary. Be strong enough to see it through. Once your body has learned to trust you (the termination of your initiation period) the accumulated water weight will fall off in a very short period of following time.

The additional reward is that since the body is a self-regulator, when it is provided the proper tools to work with, it begins to use the proper water levels to realign the body. When you lock and load on this equation you will find that, after you pass the bloating stage, your body will begin to automatically drop up to ½ a pound a week in body weight. With no other effort (other than a proper diet) it begins to drop excess weight until it eventually establishes a plateau at its intended normal weight. I have to believe this process happens because water is also critical for most enzymes action, as well. For example, proteases, amylases, and lipases are hydrolytic enzymes and require water to do their jobs. Water activates the enzymes. Without water, these and other enzymes could not function.

If you feel that you don't have the level of patience to allow this process to occur at its own pace yet desire its result, I recommend two high quality and very effective natural supplements, LOCLO High Fiber and Fat Grabbers. Both of these supplements are completely safe and provide extremely beneficial results not only in encouraging acceptable weight loss but in providing a benefit to other body systems as well.

Additionally, I recommend that you supplement your health program with CoQ-10 regardless of whether your diet is currently being supplemented with Food Enzymes or not. It is best to incorporate this supplement into your health program with the assistance of a natural health professional to ensure you are obtaining adequate amounts based on an evaluation and your current symptoms. When consulting with clients I normally recommend they begin with 90 to 100 mg a day as a minimum if they appear to have no outstanding health problems that would warrant a higher dosage. I also strongly recommend that all clients over the age of 35 years supplement his or her diet with Food Enzymes to ensure the ultimate level of nutriment utilization.

CoQ-10 is a sub class of naturally occurring and supplemented enzymes. Its chief role is that of a necessary catalyst for enzyme activation, especially development of critical metabolic enzymes formed in the pancreas. These specific enzymes are the ones that are credited with gobbling up cancer cells both before and after they split to the point of creating a tumor.

Another thing that is important to know if you are a poor water drinker is that you are creating the potential for great harm to yourself if you wait for the signal of "thirsty" to remind you to drink water. You have then placed yourself into a potential position to produce blood clots, thus self inducing a stroke or heart attack.

As an encouragement to drink more than your daily minimum amount of water give yourself a treat by putting fresh squeezed lemon in one or two extra glasses of daily water. This additive causes the liver to gently purge itself of excess toxin accumulation without giving any adverse side effects. Also in one or more of those additional glasses of water add some liquid Chlorophyll. This will nourish your blood as well as clean it of extra toxins, which takes a load off of the liver and increases the health of other body organs.

Remember that additives to water such as lemon juice, chlorophyll, or any other choice actually convert that source to a liquid food from its state of water. Doing this to any amount of your daily minimum ounces of water defeats your purpose in achieving an adequate minimum essential water supply. Foods require processing by the body to assimilate and digest them, which require appropriate volumes of water to properly complete the action. Additives to water are best viewed as a liquid food and should not be used as a psychological inducement of creating a better taste in order to encourage consuming even minimum levels of daily water.

A tool you might use to convince yourself that you might need to drink more water is best done with a helpful partner and by demonstrating the following:

Sit comfortably in a chair without arms and allow both of your arms and hands to drop to your sides. Allow this to continue until your partner sees the blood vessels on the back of your hands rise to their full capacity.

At that point slowly place each of your hands on each of your knees (palms down) and direct your visual attention to the raised blood vessels.

Then with palms still downward, hands parallel to themselves, and arms out stretched slowly begin to raise your arms and hands toward the top of your head.

Have your partner assist you by observing at what point the blood vessels collapse on the respective hand.

When this happens, stop both hands movement upward immediately. Then bend the elbow of the hand with the collapsed blood vessels to place the arm in a 90-degree position with the hand striking the torso portion of the body at the location where the veins collapsed.

Hold your hand in this position while you continue the exercise with the remaining hand until those veins also collapse

Repeat the hand placement of the remaining hand on the body portion of the body where its collapse of blood vessels occurred.

Your hands'' placement becomes the indicator of the level of hydration on each respective side of your body.

It is important to understand that the body does not normally fill as a single container (like a drinking container is filled) but fills in accordance with the needs of water specific to the location of organs' placement in the body. Evaluate at this time by viewing your hands placement. Answer the question as to which vital body organs are indicating a current deficiency of available water. Then please begin drinking more water.

Lastly, I will remind you not to drink water after 7 p.m. and if necessary only in very small quantities. The reason being because the body is such a wonderfully regulated piece of machinery it has established time clocks that are designated to repair specific systems at dedicated times of the day and night. The body's time schedule for repair of the kidneys is proposed to be between 11 p.m. and 2 am. This makes it easy to understand why social butterflies that frequent bars and diabetics because of unquenchable thirst routinely develop kidney disease as a health complication.

The way it works is that the kidneys need the provision of not having any work remaining to be done at commencement of their repair schedule. If they are given more work they will forfeit the portion of the repair time required to complete it. The repair schedule is not moved forward to allow for a full repair schedule when its established schedule is interrupted. When this consistently occurs the kidneys begin to break down no matter what other provisions are introduced to rebuild and restore them. -Carolyn Conley
