Business Example

"Which company do you think will get my business?"
Businesses spend tons of time, money, and effort, trying to attract customers. But what do they do when the phones start ringing? Judging from the way some companies respond, you'd think they don't want to do business with you.

Here's an example.
Recently, Luann Udell [ http://udell.roninhouse.com/dbg ] was relocating two home businesses. She needed gas heaters for the new location, as well as a gas stove and a gas grill. She called a propane-gas company – not just once, but 3 times in 3 days. Each time, she left her name and number, but the manager never called back. Finally she happened to call when he was in. He grumbled that it was his busy season but said he'd be happy to help "in a few months, when things slow down." He told her to come in and "pick out some brochures" and said she could call the manufacturer if she had questions.

"Granted, it's his busy season," Luann said. "But if I don't have his attention when I'm trying to buy, where will he be when I have trouble down the road?"

A friend of hers, who uses a different gas company, mentioned Luann's situation to his supplier. That supplier called Luann the same day, answered all her questions, and arranged for a rep to meet her at the new location to discuss the details. And the next day, the rep called to confirm.
The first supplier turned down a golden opportunity ... the second supplier earned a satisfied customer.
