Spider Bites

Black Ointment or PLS II as a poultice externally. Activated charcoal to draw the poison to it - make sure bowels are open, Combination 4 for the allergic reaction, and Black Cohosh for the toxic reaction. -Georgiana Duncan

One of the first things to do is draw out the toxins. Clay, in general, is very good for this, so perhaps using the bentonite clay made into a paste would be helpful. Then, perhaps, keeping a lot of the Black Salve on it. I have a friend who had this years ago and does not even have a scar to show for it. -Deana

Charcoal poultices do an excellent job of drawing out the venom. I was bitten several years ago, and this was my greatest relief. The spot started out small, and then kept growing until it was about 3" across and the center was necrosing and turning to liquid. That's when I remembered to use the charcoal, and from then on everything improved rapidly. -Jeff Lebovitz

I've read that Morinda juice internally and externally has healed the wound of the brown recluse spider bite. This person was completely healed in 3 days, whereas it usually requires skin grafting and 6-18 months and thousands of dollars of meds to heal. -Theresa Walls

In spite of her very busy schedule at the moment, my friend came through with the info on the spider bite. She had two bites on her neck that were treated herbally by a Cherokee medicine man. Never went to the Dr. and you can't even see a scar! Here is the message she sent.

For all bites - immediate or at least within the first 24 hours, coat the area with wet clay or mud. When it dries, wash off and recoat, Repeat at least 5-6 times. This will draw out toxins, venoms, etc. For later - a compress of stinging nettle, comfrey, plantain, hot as tolerated, 3-4 times a day will help. Internally - use Echinacea and St. Johns Wort, The problem with the brown recluse is that it injects venom under the skin, then seals up the wound causing an anaerobic environment which can lead to real bad stuff including gangrene. If later than 1-3 days - burdock and milk thistle internally will help alot. Watch for signs of "blood poisoning" (septicemia) red streaks running up arm, leg, neck etc. Also watch for signs of crepitus - feels like rice krispy crunchys when you press the skin around the wound, about 1" back from center and beyond. This means anerobic bacteria are developing in a sealed area. Beginnings of gangrene. The RN in me says you should go to a doctor for the above two symptoms - but the experience I have had with patients with gangrene - says you better get to a REAL hospital - like Erlanger - because most TN MD's think you should treat gangrene by surgery - but most of the rest of the country knows should be treated by high atmosphere oxygen. -Deana

To help a charcoal poultice stick to the site I used some Slippery Elm in the mixture. I used something like 1 part charcoal to one part Slippery Elm, and then wetted it only enough to get a "soft-serve" ice-cream consistency. It doesn't take much.

Then I applied it to the area and covered with plastic wrap, and left it there as long as I could, most of the day. Put on a new one at night. I didn't have to do this for very many days as it helped right away.

Warning - Charcoal is very messy and will stain clothing. I had a designated "charcoal" t- shirt just for the occasion.

Q: What would be good externally and/or internally for a 3 year old child for what looks like a spider bite on the eyelid. There is a pus pocket on the eyelid and eye is starting to swell. Doesn't look at all like pink-eye but instead possibly a spider bite. -Regina King

Normally I would highly recommend Guardian Essential Oils, HOWEVER, since it is the eyelid, I would use cotton saturated with Colloidal Silver - leave on as long as you can, and also give it internally. You can put the Guardian on the feet. Or Tea Tree and Lavender if you don't have Guardian. A spider bite can make you really sick; watch for fever/infection. -Nancy Coulter

But I wonder if you shouldn't try the EW internally and externally since it's on the eyelid. Externally, you could either make a strong tea and apply it with a cotton ball or make a poultice, maybe mixed with a little Golden Salve and hold it on with a band-aid. PLS II makes a good poultice also. -Georgiana

Q: Looking for information to help a lady who was bitten by this spider in July. Thank you for the help. -Janice McComb

Activated Charcoal as a poultice - could do it internally with lots of water as well. Change the poultice every hour. I, being a big chicken baby would change it every 15-30 minutes. Someone else said that you could just keep pouring Hydrated Bentonite over it. -Leslie Lechner

#1 Soak it in Nature's Fresh enzyme liquid-like in a bucket/on a soaking cloth etc. #2 I don't Know-but others will. -Wendy Kraft CNHP

We have had great success with mixing Tea Tree Oil and Black Walnut into a paste and putting it on the bite. It kills the enzyme that is eating the flesh. -Helen Red

I want to add to the last response. We used Herbal Skin Treatment, Tea Tree Oil and Black Walnut mixed together. However, it was not a paste. Put on bite several time. This was done on a week old bite but swelling went down almost immediately and no problems from then on. Really brings down the itch and infection in a hurry! -Jennifer

A few days ago my friend received a nasty bite from this spider. It quickly necrosed and became a quarter size ulcer with tissue heat, redness and swelling from his knee to upper thigh. I iced down the back of his leg as the bite was on the front of his thigh. I loaded him up with 10,000 mg of NSP Vitamin C time released, 8 Super Algae a day, 3 Burdock Capsules a day. I then applied Colloidal Silver 6 times a day followed by NSP Lavender essential oil on top of the ulcer. After 5 days we returned to the specialist and he said he never saw such a quick healing, even with antibiotics. If he had not healed so quick he would have had to go to the hospital and have the effected tissue removed. It is now 10 days and the black ulcer came off in the bandage. Thanks to NSP products once again. -Suzanne

What can be done for a spider bite - maybe a recluse? -Beth

I make poultice of activated charcoal. Black cohosh can also be added. Empty capsule or capsules on gauze and moisten with aloe Gel. Put another thin piece of gauze on top after moistening and apply to bite. You can put a piece of plastic wrap over the gauze to keep it from soaking into clothes. If bite is very red and inflamed or streaks are running from it change every 1/2 to one hr until it improves. It can be left on for several hrs after that. Changing frequently helps get pulled out toxins away from the body. Hope this helps. -Marilyn Dickerson

HI Everyone, Need some help. Have a spider bite on the arm with swelling and pain. Any suggestions? It is almost a week old and not improving. Already taking antibiotics, Colloidal Silver and Black Ointment. Thanks, Angie

Black Cohosh can be the answer, but not internally. Open a capsule and mix it with some olive oil so that it becomes a paste. Put the paste on the spider bite, cover with a damp, hot cloth and leave it for 10-15 minutes. You can do this more than once if necessary. The black cohosh pulls the toxins out through the bite area. Internally, take 4-6 Activated Charcoal to help get the toxins out of your body. One note with the Charcoal, if you are constipated, you may need to take one of the laxative-acting herbs such as Cascara Sagrada or LBS-II with the Charcoal so you don't get stopped up and keep everything inside. -Mike Peterson
