Reduce Boredom

The Top 10 Ways To Reduce Boredom

No matter how much we love what we do, there are those tasks we avoid or procrastinate doing. Here are a few ways to reduce the boredom of mundane tasks:

1. Delegate.
Letting someone else handle the most painful part of a task is the ideal way to reduce our boredom. Look for someone who is better at that type of task than you and let them take it over until it's completed. Pay them if you have to, it's worth it.

2. Break it down.
Divide the task into bite-size pieces that require short time bites to complete, then tackle only 1-2 at a time.

3. Stop when you sense a boredom alert.
As soon as you sense your mind drifting or your body slouching, stop and put it aside.

4. Mix and match.
Plan on attacking a boring part of your task with a more fun part. Mixing and matching will keep your mind stimulated and focused.

5. Remember your goal.
Keeping the big picture in mind will help focus and direct you to completion of the task. Paste up a visible aid that will keep the goal clear in your mind.

6. Increase the people involved.
Pulling in as many people with different viewpoints can keep the task more stimulating.

7. Decrease the people involved.
Conversely, if too many people are keeping a boring task alive without progress, limit the number of people involved and get on with it.

8. Perform mundane tasks during high energy periods.
Tedious tasks are often handled best when your mind is more alert, energetic, and rested. Take note of those times for yourself and plan accordingly.

9. Spruce up surroundings.
Energy drains can occur if our environment is not optimally suited to our mood. Provide bright lighting, colors, and textures that you enjoy around you.

10. Take frequent breaks.
Give yourself a break every hour for 5-7 minutes to stretch, get a cup of coffee, or walk to another area.
