5-HTP Power

Natural Serotonin Booster

5-HTP Power is a combination which combines the benefits of 5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) with three adaptagenic herbs Siberian Ginseng, Ashwagandha and Suma. This new product may help to elevate mood, control hunger pains and promote restful sleep. These benefits are derived primarily from 5-HTP`s ability to enhance levels of serotonin in the brain. 5-HTP is a precursor to serotonin, a neurotransmitter which helps to regulate appetite, mood and sleep. Here's some additional details about this new formula:

5-HTP
About ten years ago the amino acid tryptophan became popular as an aid to sleep and chronic pain. The use of this natural amino acid as a supplement was prohibited because a contaminated batch of the product caused serious health problems in a number of individuals. In spite of the fact that the problem was due to contamination (and not to the product itself), the FDA banned the sale of L-tryptophan.

5-HTP provides the benefits of L-tryptophan in a form that is permitted by FDA regulations. It, is ten times more active than L-tryptophan and is the immediate precursor to serotonin, so it is even more effective.

Many health problems have been linked to low levels of serotonin, including depression, insomnia, anxiety, suicidal tendencies, migraines, PMS, obsessive/compulsive behavior, obesity and addiction. Prozac and many other antidepressant drugs are designed to increase the levels of serotonin in the brain, but they also have many unpleasant side effects. Researchers have found that 5-HTP appears to offer the same benefits in reducing depression, but without the side effects. This is promising news. However, because of the mechanism by which it works, 5-HTP should not be taken in conjunction with MAO inhibiting drugs like Prozac, Zoloft etc.

Increasing serotonin levels has also been shown to inhibit appetite, thus being useful as an aid in weight
loss. The product may also help insomnia.

Siberian Ginseng
Although not a true ginseng, Russian researchers found that Eleutherococcus root (commonly known as Siberian Ginseng) has some special properties. It was found to increase resistance to stress and improve general health. Russian researchers coined the term adaptagen to describe the properties of this root. It is believed to reduce base line stress levels in the body, strengthening in particular the adrenal function. It helps the body better withstand heat, cold, radiation, infection and stress in general.

Ashwagandha
Sometimes called, "Indian Ginseng," Ashwagandha has been used in Ayurvedic: medicine in a similar manner to the way the Chinese use ginseng. The plant is a tonic which reduces nervous exhaustion and restores vitality. It helps to calm the mind, strengthen the nerves and promote restful sleep. It has been used for the chronically ill and for combating long-term stress.

Suma
The suma plant has been nicknamed "Brazilian ginseng" and is one of those herbs which has been used to treat
almost everything from cancer to loss of energy. It has a nutritive and tonic herb with adaptagenic properties. It strengthens the immune system, aids digestion and the production of new cells.

Usage:
Recommended use of 5-HTP Power varies with intended usage. For mood elevation or weight loss, take one capsule three times daily with a meal. This may be combined with St. John's Wort for depression or other weight loss herbs. As a sleep aid the recommended dosage is three capsules with the evening meal.
