Bile Salts and Elimination
What would be the best product to bind bile salts? A client had small bowel resection in Dec. and the Dr. has suggested that he take something that will bind bile salts and that may help him with his bowel movements. The surgery area is where most of the salts are absorbed and that with the area gone the salts will have a tendency to cause irritation and result in loose bowels. Thanks. -Neda

Irritable Bowel Fiber or just plain Slippery Elm are super. These mild fiber products absorb "foul gases and bile" while nourishing the friendly bowel bacteria and soothing inflammation. If they have severely loose bowels, open 6 capsules of slippery elm, mix with enough water to make a gruel (add molasses or honey if needed) and eat 3x daily. This stops that type of diarrhea quickly.
Psyllium is also valuable for absorbing bile.
They may wish to take 1/2 teas of each 2-3x daily or use one for a week then the other to see which works best.
Lastly, taking Hi Lipase on an empty stomach will help digest excess bile laying around in the system! -Desiree |
