Tetracycline

Can someone shed light on long-term, or affects of teenage use on acne? -Randy Main

My experience with tetracycline (from the histories of friends who took it for acne under a acne "specialist" direction was that it killed off all the beneficial bacteria in their guts and set them up for candida.

My friend Robin, a nurse, had acne at one point and was told to use these antibiotics. She refused and instead went on a regimen of lots of water each day. Within a month her acne was gone.

My father, a Chiropractor, routinely told his patients to drink lots of water and gave them a healthy diet to follow and cured acne in almost every case.

My opinion is that the medical profession is way off on the wrong track treating acne with antibiotics. -Bill Beers

Something else to try from NSP is our great Acne Homeopathic. We have had good luck with this. Also, watch the diet! So many teenagers cram themselves with hamburgers, french fries, etc. and then wonder why their skin breaks out. Lots of good fresh fruits and veggies added to the diet and lots of water should help too. -Mike

As a teenager - in the 1960s - I was given this horrid drug and grew a 'Tetracycline Tumor' on my shin. It was a mass of capillaries in a hard knot. Use of this harsh broad spectrum killer set me up for septic infection as it eliminated al the beneficial bacteria in the system. I still had the acne to boot! I finally got a handle on it when my hormones re balanced at the birth of my first child at age 23. Better to check bowel elimination, diet, fluid intake and hormone balance before playing with this fire. -Karen

I agree with Bill. It can also turn a tooth dark brown. Tetracycline is a broad spectrum antibiotic that is used for many infections but it is very hard on the intestines, bowel, kidneys and liver. Long term use requires that the function test of these organs be tested on a regular basis.

A better help for acne is good old Chlorophyl. This cleanses the body to reduce acne. Also good would be Citrus Bioflavonoids, Burdock, and Red Clover. Using this antibiotic also causes sun sensitivity. -Suzanne
