UTI with Small Amounts of Blood

We just recently took our daughter into the insta care office with a fever of and pain in her lower left side. She has been having some burning with urination and in the shower as well with cleaning. When the doctor had her urine analyzed he told us she had small traces of blood in it. Is this normal for UTI in children? Please fill me in on this. A concerned mother. -Miki Moreno

UTI isn't a normal thing in any person but bleeding is a fairly common occurrence with urinary or kidney infections. My first suggestion to you would be to change her diet. Way too young to already be experiencing this type of infection. No caffeine. This includes sodas, teas, chocolate, etc. Drink plenty of good water each day to help kidneys flush out the bacteria. Eliminate sugars, especially during the body's healing process. Sugars include not only table sugars but also starches, carbohydrates like potatoes, corn, peas and processed foods like white flour products, mac cheese, breads, etc. Diet should consist of as many fresh fruits and raw vegetables as possible during this healing period and continue this type of diet even after healing has taken place. NSP has a wonderful product called Cranberry Buchu. Buchu is an herb for nourishment of urinary tract to support healthy tissue growth so body won't fall victim to infection. So easily cranberry is wonderful for urinary system. Also for it adheres to tissue walls in the system preventing these types of bacteria from entering and growing within the tissues. Has antiseptic and diuretic properties. Must drink plenty of water to aid the body in flushing out the bacteria. Cranberry Buchu is safe for kids too. Biggest thing to watch is her diet. Most children of today eat a diet way too high in refined sugars, processed foods and high starch. Water, water, water is so important. Hope this info helps out. -Stacey Brown
