Has anyone had any experience with sleep apnea? I am not finding any info in my usual reference files and books. I know they usually tell people to lose weiight, but this young man is very slim and active; early 30s and has gone to a sleep clinic where they diagnosed him with sleep apnea....I am wondering what natural avenues there are, he hates wearing the oxygen mask every night... _________________ Herbal Answers

I had success with my husband at one stage by waking him to drink a large mug of water, 2 nights running. This was after I counted 11 missed breaths, I roused him and said you are not breathing! To that he rolled over and continued NOT BREATHING. So after Praying I got the large mug of water, Woke him to put his legs over the edge of the bed, so he would not spill water on the bed. He then drank it ! [ /2 asleep] where normally he could not drink water. So maybe dehydration can be partially to blame. Valerie Then there are some poeple whose bodies do not use water correctly. I think it is HY-C they need. Please share if you get siccess in anyway. |

I agree with Valerie. I have found there to usually be an endocrine issue such as an adrenal gland imbalance. Adrenals are tied into SO many things such as our respiratory tract, allergies, blood sugar levels, increased inflammation, etc. I would support the adrenals with Mineral Chi, Nutri-calm(Vit. B5/C) and Nervous Fatigue formula. I would take the Nervous Fatigue 4 times a day instead of 3 (e.g. a.m/noon/p.m./bedtime).
If you Muscle test, I would test for these things. A glandular such as Adrenal support may be necessary to add and/or other endocrine support such as thyroid/pancreas/pituitary, etc.
Please keep us posted. _________________ Regina L. King, RN, BSN, ND |

Apnea is generally associated with snoring, which is associated with sinus/respiratory issues (that comes from some of my nursing studies). From the few people (that I know)who have tried using herbs/drugs that target sinus/respiratory issues they have reported some relief, but none that I know of have had their diagnosis changed. However, there are some cases of people who snore that do so because of physical abnormalities in their soft palate, tongue, and throat areas. In that case, I am not sure exactly what would help other than perhaps changing sleep positions with the head held in a more up position than lying flat. Hope that helps some. |

I've been watching this discussion and thought I'd add my 2 cents worth. I have had the sleep study done -- During a 5 hour stretch, I quit breathing 88 times.
Now, they made me lay on my back, which normally, I do not sleep on my back, I lay on my side with a pillow wadded up under my neck.
It could possibly be an adrenal issue -- but, I neither snored or quit breathing until I went into menopause and gained weight. Supposedly, what happens, is that when you fall asleep, the muscles in your throat relax -- (In my case that's what apparently causes my snoring also). It can also close off your breathing, causing it to stop -- which also can cause a snorting type of snore as you subconsciously gasp for breath.
Now, this man that was the topic in the original post was fairly young and lean -- so weight, apparently, was not an issue. What my thought is, could it possibly be muscle tone, tho -- or lack of muscle tone? Just a thought!!! |

I have a regular customer who suffered with this condition and has great results with NSP's SnorEase. It works by shrinking the swelling in the sinus membranes and opening up the airways. It contains Coenzyme Q10 which helps deliver more oxygen and it is believed to improve asthma and allergies. If the SnoreEase dosen't give him relief you might want to try adding a little extra Coenzyme Q10 and/or HistaBlock. Also consider eliminating dairy products for a couple of weeks and see if that helps. Another one of my friends rubs TeiFu Oil all around her husbands ears and forehead before going to sleep and she claims it stopped the apnea problem. |
