Little baby, 6 months old, 6 wks premature. Sweetest baby you ever saw having difficulty keeping formula down. Mom is afraid they'll tube him soon if she can't find a resolution. Pour thing is so constipated. She's feeding him a special formula that's $65 a can. Trouble is I don't have much experience with herbs and baby's. If it was an adult...I'd think peppermint to help sooth the stomach & digestive enzymes to help break it down. I just don't know with a little peanut like this (maybe 10lbs) what's safe and how to administer. Can't tell her to change formula because it's perscribed by a doctor and I don't want to go to jail. Thought about steeping peppermint in distilled water and giving him just a bit before feeding. Maybe breaking up capsule in formula for enzyme? But she says the formula is partially digested. Anyone who has experience with little premies I'd love to hear from you. I really need someone to bounce ideas off of. |

Hi,
I don't really have a specific answer for you. I will refer your question to someone who is a true expert. BUT, first of all -- just a little note on this subject. Breast feeding would have been the thing for this baby. It would have solved all the problems. I have heard of woman who have brought milk IN after the fact by mere stimulation of the baby sucking. It sure might be worth trying.
At this point, I don't know that the issue is the fact that the baby was a premmie 6 month ago - but what this infant is eating NOW. On the forum "Frequently Asked Questions" segment is some very good information under the heading of Infant feeding. http://www.nspforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=1168
Do read that and see if it helps you at all. You are welcome to print this out or copy and paste it into an email. |
